Terms of Service
Effective Date: January 30, 2026
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Dissertation (Pre)Checker service ("Service") operated by us ("we," "us," or "our").
1. Service Description
Dissertation (Pre)Checker is an automated document analysis tool that helps identify structural issues, citation problems, terminology concerns, and style improvements in academic writing, particularly dissertation chapters.
Important: Our Service is NOT a replacement for human review. We provide automated feedback to help you identify potential issues, but the final review and approval of your work should be performed by your academic advisor, committee, or professional editor.
2. Account Terms

You must be at least 18 years old or have the legal authority to enter into these Terms on behalf of your institution to use our Service. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
One Account Per User
Each user is permitted one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits or for any other reason is prohibited and may result in account termination.
3. Payment Terms
Subscription Pricing
Our paid subscription is $12 per month, billed monthly through our payment processor, Polar. Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.

We offer a limited free tier that allows you to analyze documents with basic features. The free tier has usage limitations that may change at our discretion.
Refunds
Subscription fees are generally non-refundable. However, we will provide refunds where required by applicable consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction.
4. User Content
Ownership
You retain full ownership of all documents and content you upload to our Service. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your work.

Academic Integrity
Our Service is designed to help you improve your own writing, not to facilitate academic dishonesty. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of our feedback complies with your institution's academic integrity policies. 6. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
We specifically disclaim:
- Any warranty of accuracy or completeness of the feedback provided
- Any warranty that the Service will meet your specific requirements
- Any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free
- Any warranty regarding the results obtained from using the Service
Our Service is not a substitute for professional editing, proofreading, or academic review. The feedback we provide is automated and may not catch all issues or may flag items that are actually acceptable in your specific context.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- Our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
- We shall not be liable for any damages arising from your reliance on feedback provided by the Service.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, our liability will be limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dissertation (Pre)Checker and its affiliates, officers, agents, and employees from any claim, demand, or damage, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.
9. Termination
By You
You may delete your account and terminate your use of the Service at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, your account data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
By Us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or for any other reason at our sole discretion. We will attempt to provide notice before termination when practicable.
Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will remain in effect.
10. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
11. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by email and/or by posting a notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
